Advanced Photography Course

You know the basics, Challenge yourself, Leave your comfort zone, Infinity and beyond!

Advanced Practical Workshop with lots of challenging exercises

'I want more'

You’re hooked. You’ve fallen into an obsessive love affair with your camera and it’s all going great. But don’t get complacent, it’s time to up your game after that Level 1 Beginners Workshop. This Advanced Level 2 photography course lets you build on the skills from the first class, leaving you with the skills to tackle trickier settings like high-contrast landscapes and low-light photography.

'I like the manual mode but often miss shots'

Practise makes perfect. But its also about fully understanding the advantages of semi-automatic modes like Aperture and Shutter Speed Priority and knowing how to use them in conjunction with exposure compensation. By the end of this workshop you will be able to take pictures a lot faster than you were when you got out of bed in the morning.

'I want to maximise the potential of my equipment'

We will talk about advanced concepts like the medium grey, about great tools like the histogram and the highlight alert, about the difference between JPEG and RAW files. And we will put it all into practise, adjusting your white balance and even using your flash!

Is this course for me?

This class will have you brushing up your photography skills in no time and you’ll be combining theory with as much hands-on practice as possible.

The only requirement is that you be familiar with what’s covered in the Beginners Level 1 class. If you know about aperture, shutter speed and ISO, if you’re at least somewhat confident about working with depth-of-field and motion blur then you’re ready!

Don’t worry, you don’t have to be a pro. We can always go back to the basics. (We just don’t want to.)

What will you learn?

Advanced Concepts

Starting with an explanation of the medium gray you will finally understand how your camera’s exposure meter works. This, in turn, is the key to controlling your exposure in difficult, non-standard lighting scenarios. We will then go on and practise using exposure compensation both in Manual mode and in Aperture priority.

Challenging scenes

Practise and master shooting under difficult lighting conditions. This is a practical course and we will focus on the two, most challenging scenarios: high-contrast and low-light.

Practise, practise, practise

We will practise working in natural light but also with your flash. And when we are done practising we will practise some more. In case we are meeting outside, please dress according to the weather. Oh, and have I told you that this is a practical course involving lots of practise?

Understand your lenses

We’ll discuss lens choice which will lead us to talking about improving your composition. A few simple principles and a keen eye will take you a long way!
